Varzea is one of the top restaurants to go to if you're in the area.
It's in front of Aljezur's main supermarket, and besides its indoor space, it has a great terrace with a nice view to the mountains.
The menu is composed of main and tapas-style dishes, which by our experience, are all outstanding.
Because we are in Portugal, and mostly because Varzea is located 10 minutes away from the ocean, you will get the opportunity to taste very fresh fish: from raw tuna to salmon, sea bass, and shrimps. But if you're a meat fan, don't get disappointed. The menu includes delicious meat dishes too, especially pork. If you are vegetarian, 70% of the vegetables they serve, are produced in the restaurant's own garden, and they are great options too. There's special care given to the ingredients, and the way they're being used — and you can tell on the flavour! Dare to try very surprising combinations, like raw tuna with lemon and coriander ice-cream.
Atum na Horta
Fresh tuna tartar from the garden, in citrus and mango vinaigrette, served with lemon and coriander ice cream and sweet potato crunch.
Brás de Camarão
Sautéed shrimp, ginger, lemon and leek, sweet potato, served with egg, on top of white bean cream and rosemary.
Tentáculo Crocante
Crispy octopus served with roasted red pepper sauce, smoked salt, sweet potato and garlic and lemon mayonnaise.
In terms of price, this is not the cheapest restaurant you will find in the area. The average small dish is 9€, and the majority of main portions are around 13€.
Note: It's closed on Tuesdays.
